When was the last time you did what you usually do differently?

We become so embedded in our routines that we don’t even question these habitual behaviors. When this happens we become narrow and constricted; options and choices become few.

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

One way to begin to change our perspective of our surroundings is to do things that have become routine differently.  Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” A way to support seeing things differently is to embrace a mental and physical change of our patterns.

If we normally walk the dog in the morning, try walking the dog in the evening, or walk the same path in reverse. If we drive the same way to the office each day, find an alternate route. We all have our morning rituals. We can change any one of them and create a different experience. If we’re really up for a new view, we can attend a class or an event that is out of our comfort zone.

When we break free from our habits, we experience things with a new sense of curiosity. We’re open to the wonder of new situations so that fresh interpretations may occur.

Shaking up our daily patterns spills over to the rest of our lives, and we begin to notice things that we haven’t seen before. We create a newfound sense of freedom that supports new behaviors. How refreshing to realize that we’re not bound by our routines.

Guidance for cultivating a new perspective:

1.  What routines can you change right now?

2. How does it feel to do what you usually do differently?

3. Where do you feel this in your body?

4. What do you see that you haven’t seen before?
