Dear Friends,

As the end of the year approaches, I want to thank you for your readership and continued support.

2019 has invited me to hold extremes of sadness and joy, loneliness and connection, disappointment and gratefulness that have tested my strength, flexibility and adaptability.

In July I had unexpected knee surgery that kept me sidelined all summer. Missing my favorite season and the ability to play outdoors was a challenge. I had recently started taking long walks, and I missed the joy of being in nature. Losing Maizy, our beloved 12-year old Labrador retriever offered another lesson of adapting to change that was not in my plan.

September saw the arrival of Henry, our new 8-week-old Australian Labradoodle. Henry offered another change as we downsized from a 65-pound Lab to a 35-pound Doodle. Raising a puppy has offered me many lessons in being firm and flexible in the same breath.

As I reflect on 2019, I realize that life often invites us to hold opposites at the same time. I’m grateful to have purposeful work and meaningful relationships that have helped me navigate these polarities.

Wishing you much health and happiness in the new year.
